In health care, there are two main components: patients and providers. For either one to be successful, each must rely on the other. Patient satisfaction is one key factor to that success; measuring the extent to which a patient is content with the health care they received from their provider.

9.9 out of every 10 patients rated Union Health’s Orthopedic Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program – “Very good” or “Excellent”! That’s according to a recent survey taken by joint replacement patients over the last nine months.

Union Health Joint Replacement Program is a partnership between Union Health Orthopedics and Indiana Joint Replacement Institute and is one of the top-rated programs in the nation and received the Advanced Joint replacement Certification with Distinction from the Accreditation Commission for Healthcare (ACHC).

Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Stephen Fern says it takes an entire orthopedic team focused on their patient to accomplish this milestone.

“I am proud to be part of such an amazing team that puts our patients first and further believe the 99th percentile for patient satisfaction measure is simply a manifestation of our patient centered focus and culture.”

The teams responsible for that success include orthopedic surgeons, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, anesthesia/pre-testing, nursing staff, medical assistants, athletic trainers, exercise science, joint navigators, surgery schedulers, clerical staff, call specialists, surgery Department and operating room associates, Wabash Valley Surgery Center staff, physical and occupational therapy staff, pharmacy services, case management and discharge planning.

“Over the years, I have seen our total joint program grow exponentially,” Amanda Barnett, Nursing Care Manager – 3EA/Orthopedic Unit, said. “We offer an advanced program that starts in the physician's office and continues through the procedure and all follow-up care. Our team of physicians, nurses, coordinators, navigators and office staff are always here to help guide patients through our program to provide you with the knowledge needed to have the best outcome.”

“At Union Health, our team approach to the total joint program is unmatched,” Director of Union Hospital Therapy, Inpatient and Outpatient Services Terra Naylor said. “The part that really elevates our program is the streamlined process and high level of integration amongst each service area. We all have very high levels of expectations for our patients to succeed and a desire to continuously strive for greatness.”

“We have an amazing team that all work together to give the patient the best experience possible,” said Nichole Bonar, LPN.

“The team is very much invested in this program,” said Leah Salvador, Union Health Orthopedic Service Line Director. “They put their heart and soul into it and to know that they have achieved it consistently this past year, that’s very heartwarming. It makes us want to maintain it and do even better for all our patients.”

Union Health has quickly become a destination location for hip and knee joint replacement.
